The various criteria used to change hazard colors are listed below.

Frost/Freeze
  No thunderstorms forecast     No frost/freeze concerns
  Some thunder possible; no severe weather expected     Patchy or Areas of frost
  Severe thunderstorms possible     Widespread frost or freeze
 

Snow/Ice

  

Wind
  No impact from snow/ice expected     Less than 30 mph (including gusts)
  Some impact to people and/or travel     Winds of 30 to 57 mph possible
  Significant impact to people and/or travel     Winds greater than 58 mph possible
         

Rain/Flooding

 

Marine
  No flooding or heavy rain     Winds/waves below small craft advisory level
  Locally heavy rain (or ice jams)     Small craft advisory conditions
  Heavy rain/flooding     Gale/storm conditions, waterspouts
         

Fog

 

Extreme Temperature
  No fog     No temperature impacts
  Patchy or areas of fog     Advisory level heat or cold
  Widespread fog     Warning level heat or cold
         

Rip Currents

 

Fire Weather
  Low risk of rip currents     Low fire danger
  Moderate/High risk of rip currents     Elevated fire danger (strong winds/low humidity)
  Moderate/High risk of rip currents     Red Flag conditions
