A National Weather Service damage survey conducted Tuesday confirmed Monday’s report of a tornado in Arenac County. The tornado occurred 3 miles northeast of Standish near US-23 and Wolfe Road. It was rated an EF0 with winds estimated around 80 mph. The tornado topped off a large tree just off Wolfe Road and then crossed a corn field eventually lifting across US-23 near Hull Road. A trailer on the south side of US-23 had its roof torn off (picture below). Other damage was confined to trees and fields.
Two people reported seeing the tornado. The corn field damage was confirmed by a fly over from a LifeNet Helicopter from Saginaw Covenant Healthcare (picture below). There were no injuries from the tornado. The family inside the damaged trailer abandoned the structure before the roof was torn off, seeking shelter from debris in the backyard.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning initially issued for Arenac County by the National Weather Service in Gaylord was upgraded to a Tornado Warning just prior to the tornado touch down. Radar images showing the circulation associated with the tornado are shown below.
