February 11, 2003 Snow Totals
(Ending 8:00 PM 2/11)
Table listing of totals below the map.
Low pressure over North Dakota on the morning of the 11th, quickly moved southeast across southern Minnesota and Wisconsin during the afternoon and into Michigan by the evening. A warm front ahead of the low brought a round of light snow to the area during the early morning with skies becoming mostly sunny once the warm front moved through. As the low moved through, a cold front also swept across the region. The combination of the low, cold front and an upper level disturbance brought another round of snow during the late morning and afternoon hours. The proper conditions existed across portions of southeast Minnesota into southwest Wisconsin for thunder snow to occur and snowfall totals in this area quickly jumped into the four inch range. Preston Minnesota in Fillmore county reported the most snow with 4.5 inches. Once the cold front moved through, the winds switched to the northwest and speeds as high as 40 mph were recorded across southeast Minnesota. These winds produced blowing and drifting snow and visibilities in the blowing snow were reduced to a quarter mile or less for short periods of time.
