January 28, 2003 Snow Totals
(Ending 4:30 PM 1/28)
Table listing of totals below the map.

A cold front moved across the upper Midwest during the day. Low pressure over the lower plains states caused warm air aloft to be in the vicinity of the front. This warm air initially caused the precipitation to fall as freezing rain during the early morning hours. Icy conditions were reported from southeast South Dakota across southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. The warm air was replaced by cooler air by late morning changing the freezing rain over to light snow. The cold front moved south of the region by late afternoon pushing all the snow out of the area. Only a light coating of ice was reported across northeast Iowa, with Garnavillo in Clayton county having ice accumulations around a quarter of an inch. Most snow totals were in the 1 to 2 inch range with a maximum of 3 inches at Ossian, Iowa in Winneshiek county.
