Amateur Radio Special Event

On Saturday, December 1st 2001, the National Weather Service conducted a nationwide event with amateur radio operators. The goal was to contact as many HAM radio operators and NWS offices as possible. The purpose of the event was to recognize the contributions amateur radio operators make to the National Weather Service during severe weather.

Here is a summary of our contacts:

  • Total contacts made: 215
  • Total U.S. States contacted: 39
  • Total NWS Offices contacted: 22
  • Total foreign countries contacted: 2 (Canada and Kuwait)
  • Businest hour(s) with 39 contacts made: 8-9 am and 10-11am CST
  • Slowest hour with 4 contacts made: 11am-noon CST
  • All contacts were made on 20 meters, except 6 on 15 meters.
