Regional Director's Office
With the help of the 45-person Regional Office, provides leadership, management, and support to 38 Weather Forecast Offices, 2 River Forecast Offices, and 5 Center Weather Service Units in a 14 state region.
Responsible for the nearly 1000 dedicated people in those offices and a budget of over $110 million.
Supports National Weather Service Central Region Offices in the delivery of weather and water warnings, forecasts and information to provide the best possible service to the public
- Supports National Weather Service Central Region offices in areas of professional development, operational research and scientific publications to ensure scientific principles are applied effectively to improve forecast accuracy and minimize loss of life and property.
Systems and Facilities
Manages the operation, installation, upgrade, and maintenance of computer systems, electronics, communications, and facilities that support the weather and hydrological programs in the Central Region. These include the WSR-88D Doppler Radars, Automated Surface Observing Systems (ASOS), NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio (NWR), the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS), local and wide area communications networks and services, and buildings, grounds, towers and other NWS-owned facilities.
Serves as the regional focal point for a wide variety of administrative activities in support of operations. The mission of this Division is to provide advice, guidance, and support to the Regional Director, managers and field offices on budget formulation and execution, personnel management, equal employment opportunity, diversity, procurement, property, travel, and time and attendance procedures. Other general administrative functions include overseeing telecommunications and utilities billing, mail and copy services, printing requirements, physical security, records and files, government vehicles, supply and warehousing, travel card program, convenience check and purchase card procedures.
