1987 August 18th
This spectacular photo was taken by Arnold Ross near Little Marais, Minnesota. A thunderstorm about 5 miles from shore produced as many as 7 waterspouts, which then merged into one. The photographer could see lake water being sucked up into the clouds. The episode lasted 35 to 40 minutes!
