Surface Maps

Summary

A low pressure center tracked northeast across Minnesota and over Lake Superior through the day of January 12th, 2005. At 9 am, the center of the low pressure system was situated near the southwest corner of Minnesota, before moving into the Twin Ports area of Lake Superior, around 3 pm that afternoon.

As the system drifted northeast, it swung a cold front across Minnesota and western Wisconsin. This front triggered a line of wintry precipitation across southern Minnesota, as well as respectable snowfall amounts in the central and northeastern portions of Minnesota, along with far northwest Wisconsin.
