This snowstorm was associated with a low pressure system that slowly crossed the Northland, bringing a storm total of 15.8 inches over about a 36 hour period to the Duluth NWS office. The low pressure system passed to the south of Lake Superior, resulting in strong south winds blowing over the lake. This allowed for additional lake enhanced snowfall along the steep terrain of the North Shore and northern Duluth area. On December 14th, a new daily snowfall record of 13.2 inches was set at Duluth.
