SNOWFALL REPORTS...FINAL SUMMARY
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DETROIT/PONTIAC MI
1133 AM EST SAT JAN 21 2006

A FAST MOVING STORM SYSTEM MOVED OUT OF THE TEXAS PANHANDLE ON
FRIDAY AND RACED NORTHEAST...CROSSING DIRECTLY OVER DETROIT AROUND 3
AM EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. THIS BROUGHT A QUICK SHOT OF WINTER
PRECIP TO SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN. PRECIP RANGED FROM ALL SNOW IN THE
norTH TO MOSTLY RAIN IN THE SOUTH. IN BETWEEN...FROM THE I69
CORRIDOR SOUTH TO M59...A MIXED BAG OF SLEET...FREEZING RAIN...AND
SNOW FELL.

SNOWFALL TOTALS WERE GREATEST ACROSS THE NORTH. A WIDESPREAD 6 TO 7
INCHES FELL ACROSS THE TRI CITIES AND THUMB REGION WHERE THE PRECIP
BEGAN AS ALL SNOW EARLY FRIDAY EVENING. NEW SNOW ACCUMULATION WAS
LIGHTER ACROSS THE CENTRAL PORTIONS OF OUR REGION WHERE A PROLONGED
PERIOD OF RAIN AND SLEET CUT BACK THE SNOW TOTALS. A LIGHT
ACCUMULATION OF ICE OCCURRED FROM THE FREEZING RAIN AND UP TO AN
INCH OF SLEET WAS REPORTED PRIOR TO THE TRANSITION TO ALL SNOW.

FURTHER SOUTH...FROM METRO DETROIT...IT WAS MOSTLY AN ALL RAIN
EVENT. AS THE LOW PULLED NORTHEAST OF THE REGION...COLDER AIR
FINALLY FILTERED SOUTH FAR ENOUGH FOR THIS AREA TO RECEIVED A BRIEF
PERIOD OF SNOW...LESS THAN AN INCH. THE LAST BAND OF SNOW MOVED
THROUGH AROUND 8 AM...BRINGING A SHARP END TO THE PRECIP ACROSS
SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN.
