December 1, 2006 - Snowstorm Blankets Region

A vigorous winter storm system  lifted out of the southern plains and across the midwest during the evening of November 30th and continued into midday on December 1st.  In the local area, precipitation began as sleet in some areas during the evening, and changed over to snow around and after midnight.

Some locations experienced thunder-snow, which added to the varied accumulations.  In the local area, Princeton, Illinois reported the highest amounts with numerous reports of 15 to 16 inches and one spotter north of town measuring 18 inches.
