The average low temperature was 64.4 degrees which was 1.6 degrees below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 97 degrees on the 8th. The lowest temperature was 51 degrees on the 30th.  The low temperature of 57 degrees on the 2nd tied a record for that date.

Precipitation came in at 8.51 inches for the month, or 4.97 inches above normal. The greatest total in a 24 hour period was 3.38 inches on the 16th through 17th. August 2009 has now become the 6th wettest August on record for Kansas City since 1888.

At Saint Joseph, the average temperature was 73.1 degrees, which was 2.8 degrees below normal. The average high was 83.4 degrees which was 4.5 degrees below normal. The average low temperature was 62.9 degrees which was 0.9 degrees below normal. The highest temperature was 96 degrees on the 8th. The lowest temperature was 47 degrees on the 30th. The low temperature of 55 degrees on the 2nd tied a record for that date.
 
Precipitation at Saint Joseph was 5.83 inches, or 2.03 inches above normal. The greatest total in a 24 hour period was 1.58 inches on the 16th through 17th.
