The average temperature at St Joseph Rosecrans Memorial airport for the winter 2008-09 season (December-February) was 28.2 degrees, which is 1.5 degrees below the 30-year average. Based on the longer term historical 100 year record from various St Joseph observation points (though temperature data at this site is incomplete), winter 2008-09 was the 25th coolest on record. The average high temperature for the season was 40.1 degrees, which is 0.1 degrees above normal, while the average low temperature was 16.2 degrees, which is 3.2 degrees below normal. A record high temperature of 64 degrees was set on December 26th, which eclipsed the old record set in 1988. Another record high of 71 degrees was set on January 31st, which ties the previous record set in 1989. Yet another record high of 67 degrees was set on February 6th, breaking the old record set in 1970. And a fourth record high of 68 degrees was set on February 7th, breaking the old record set in 1987. The highest temperature of the season was 71 degrees recorded on January 31st, and the lowest temperature of 11 degrees below zero occurred on December 22nd.
