Interested in working with the NWS? Be a volunteer!

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill is accepting applications for our student volunteer program. This program allows a student to:

  • Learn daily NWS operations
  • Work with NWS forecasters
  • Develop forecast skills and participate in projects
  • Become competitive for future NWS employment

Who may apply?

Students currently enrolled at least half time in an atmospheric science program (preferably entering your junior or senior year in Fall 2014 or enrolled in a graduate program). You must still be enrolled in summer 2014 to be eligible. Spring 2014 graduates are not eligible unless you will be entering graduate school in Fall 2014.

When is the volunteer period?

Volunteers typically work between 80 and 120 hours over 2 to 3 months. This is usually, but not always, during the summer months.  Shifts are typically between 3 and 6 hours long.

Is this a paid position?

No.
