Holm Award Presentation – Everett Lucas, Academy, SD
October 15, 2007
The American Legion Hall, Platte, SD

What setting could possibly be more appropriate than the American Legion Hall to honor an individual for their unselfish act of volunteerism, consistent dedication, and patriotism to the community and our Nation? On the evening of October 15th MIC Greg Harmon and DAPM Donald Morin of WFO Sioux Falls, SD journeyed to the town of Platte, South Dakota to present the John Campanius Holm Award to Academy, SD area rancher/farmer Everett Lucas. Mr. Lucas has been the official weather watcher for the Academy area for the past 21 years and a member of the American Legion for nearly 50 years. In addition to local Legion members, on hand to celebrate Mr. Lucas award were seven of his ten children, all of whom were vey proud of their father’s accomplishment. Mr. Lucas has kept impeccable records during his tenure as the observer in the Historical Climate Network. Additionally, he has often called the WFO in Sioux Falls to report rapidly changing conditions. His extra effort resulted in changes to forecasts and occasionally the issuance of an advisory or warning. We know we can always count on Mr. Lucas for his support, and we greatly value our partnership. Congratulations Everett, and thank you.
