There were no flash flood or river flood events in December.

General Hydrologic Information

Temperatures in December were much above normal across the region, with most areas running 6 to 8 degrees above the 30 year average. Precipitation for the month was below to much below normal. Most of the region received less than ¼ inch of precipitation for the month, which is ½ to 1 inch below normal.
 
Soil Moisture conditions at the end of December were near normal to slightly below normal. The long term drought indices showed near normal conditions across the eastern portions of the region, abnormally dry conditions in the James River Basin, and moderate drought conditions along and west of the Missouri River in South Dakota.
