Summary

December was a very warm and dry month across the region.

Flooding

There was no flooding in the region during December.

General Hydrologic Information

Temperatures in December were much above normal across the region. Average temperatures for the month were generally 5 to 7 degrees above the 30 year average.
 
Precipitation for the month ranged from around 10 to 60 percent of normal. Precipitation totals were around 0.4 to 0.7 inch below normal. There was little to no snow cover across the region at the end of the month.
 
Soil Moisture conditions at the end of December were near normal in the south, and 1 to 2 inches above normal in the north. The National Drought Monitor indicated abnormally dry conditions persisting in the extreme western areas and much of southwest Minnesota, with near normal conditions across the rest of the region.
