Summary
February was another very warm month. Precipitation was near normal to much above normal, but again there was very little snowfall.
Flooding
Heavy rains fell across the southern portions of the region, but there was no flooding during February.
General Hydrologic Information
Temperatures in February were much above normal across the region. Average temperatures for the month were generally 7.5 to 9.5 degrees above the 30 year average.Precipitation for the month ranged from around 70 to 170 percent of normal. Precipitation totals were around 0.2 inch below normal in the northwest, and 0.5 inch above normal in the southeast. There was little to no snow cover across the region at the end of the month.
Soil Moisture conditions at the end of February were near normal in the south, and 1 to 2 inches above normal in the north. The National Drought Monitor indicated abnormally dry conditions persisting in the extreme western areas and much of southwest Minnesota, with near normal conditions across the rest of the region.
