General Hydrologic Information

Temperatures in December were above normal across the region, with most areas running 2 to 4 degrees above the 30 year average. Precipitation for the month was below normal. Most of the region received around 1/4 to 1/3 inch of precipitation for the month, which is about 50% of normal.
 
Soil Moisture conditions at the end of January were near normal to slightly below normal. The long term drought indices showed abnormally dry conditions for all of the region, with moderate drought conditions along and west of the James River in South Dakota.
