Summary

January was a warm month with near normal precipitation, but very little snowfall.

Flooding

There was no flooding in the region during January.

General Hydrologic Information

Temperatures in January were above normal across the region. Average temperatures for the month were generally 2 to 3 degrees above the 30 year average.
 
Precipitation for the month ranged from around 75 to 130 percent of normal. Precipitation totals were around 0.1 inch below normal to 0.2 inch above normal. There was little to no snow cover across the region at the end of the month.
 
Soil Moisture conditions at the end of January were near normal in the south, and 1 to 2 inches above normal in the north. The National Drought Monitor indicated abnormally dry conditions persisting in the extreme western areas and much of southwest Minnesota, with near normal conditions across the rest of the region.
