Summary

January 2006 was an extremely warm and dry month.

 

Flooding

There was no river flooding in January. There were also no flash flood events.

 

General Hydrologic Information

Temperatures in January were much above normal across the entire region. Many areas set a new record for the warmest January. Average temperatures for the month were 16.2 to 18.4 degrees above the 30 year average.

 

Precipitation for the month was below normal for all of the region. Precipitation totals were 60% to 80% of normal.

 

Soil Moisture conditions at the end of January were near normal across the far southern and western portions of the region, and up to 3 inches above normal in the northeast. The National Drought Monitor indicated no drought conditions for any of the region.
