General Hydrologic Information

Temperatures in May were below normal across the region, with most areas 1 to 3 degrees below the 30 year average. Precipitation for the month was near normal for most of the region, with most areas within 1/2 inch above or below normal. Rainfall totals for the month were generally between 2.5 and 3.5 inches.
 
Soil Moisture conditions at the end of May were near normal to slightly below normal, with deficits of less than 2 inches. The drought indices as of the end of May showed normal conditions from the Big Sioux River and Missouri River eastward, with abnormally dry conditions for the James River and Vermillion River basins.
