Summary
May was another wet month for the entire region, with near normal temperatures.
Flooding
There was minor river flooding on the upper half of the Little Sioux River in May. Please see the table at the bottom of this report for details on this. Also, there were 3 flash flood events in May. The first was in Plymouth County in IA and Jackson County in MN on the 8th, the second was again in Jackson County on the 13th, and the third was in Clay County in SD on the 31st.
General Hydrologic Information
Temperatures in May were near normal to slightly below normal across the entire region. Average temperatures for the month were generally 1.5 degrees below to 0.2 degrees above the 30 year average.Precipitation for the month was above normal for all of the region. Precipitation totals were 0.5 to 1.5 inches above normal (110% to 145% of normal).
Soil Moisture conditions at the end of May were around 1 inch above normal across the entire region. The National Drought Monitor indicated near normal conditions across the entire region.
