NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio
Specific Area Message Encoding

Annoyed that your NOAA Weather Radio alerts you of severe weather outside your county while sleeping? A new generation of NOAA Weather Radio receivers have a Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) feature that allows consumers to be alerted for official NWS watches and warnings by specific counties of their choosing. Your older NOAA Weather Radio receivers will continue to work as they have before, but the older receivers do not allow listeners to screen out weather service alarms for individual counties.  Click Here for information on buying a NOAA Weather Radio.

What's My Number?

Many new receivers require you to input a FIPS code for the state and county/counties that you want to be alerted for when NWS Watches and Warnings are issued. The following links contain codes for the states and counties in and near the NWS Sioux Falls area of responsibility.

Iowa (019) Minnesota (027)
Nebraska (031) South Dakota (046)
