Hats off to the Sioux Empire Amateur Radio Club for the great job they did for event station N0F during Skywarn Recognition Day 2003. Over a six hour period, xxx contacts were made from the NWS Sioux Falls office to other ham stations, including xx other weather offices, around the USA and Canada.

This special annual event raises the awareness of the service that amateur radio operators provide to the National Weather Service during periods of adverse weather.  Many amateur radio operators volunteer their time to serve as spotters for the National Weather Service.  Their information enhances the service that the NWS provides the public during severe thunderstorm and/or tornadic events.  If you would like to learn more about amateur radio, please contact Todd Heitkamp or Don Morin.  For more information about this Special Event across the nation, visit http://hamradio.noaa.gov.
