| Thursday evening's weather...and a forecast that leaves most of our region with sub-freezing temperatures over the course of the next week...pretty much guarantees a white Christmas for many locations in central Nebraska and a few places across north-central Kansas. Thursday night's storm threw nearly everything at us but the kitchen sink...starting out during the late afternoon before wrapping up around 3 am Friday morning. Most locations received a smorgasbord of freezing fog...freezing drizzle...freezing rain...sleet...snow...and thunder and lightning through the evening hours Thursday into the pre-dawn hours Friday.
Heavy bands of snow and sleet extended across central Nebraska in two distinct areas...one from near Holdrege north into the Ravenna...Ashton....North Loup/Scotia areas...and on into the Greeley and Spalding communities. Ten inches of new snow fell at Greeley and a NERain observer reported 10 inches of new snow 4 miles east of Scotia...which appears to be the area hardest hit. The second area...although not as heavy...showed up a bit farther east...around Chapman and between York and Gresham...where around 4 inches of new snow and sleet fell. |
