40 Year Length of Service Award Presented to Covert, KS COOP Observers

A 40 year Length of Service Award was recently presented to Bill and Marlene Murphy of rural Covert, Kansas. As precipitation reporters, they have measured over one thousand inches of rain and just over nine hundred inches of snow in the past 40 years. Some years have been pretty lean with only 5 inches of rain for the year while 1993, the year of the Great Flood, was quite wet with over 45 inches recorded. Marla K. Doxey, Data Acquisition Program Manager from the National Weather Service Office in Hastings, Nebraska - presented the award, along with a congratulatory letter from D.L. Johnson, Director of the National Weather Service.
