At least two rounds of widespread, soaking rains fell between the mid-evening hours of August 14 and the early morning hours of August 16, affecting much of central and south central Nebraska and parts of north central Kansas. During the roughly 36-hour period that most of this rain fell, many locations across central and south central Nebraska tallied between 1-2 inches, while most sites in north central Kansas reported totals under 1 inch.
The heaviest rainfall in the 2-4+ inch range focused across northern portions of the area, generally along and north of a line running from Cozad through Miller, St. Paul and Genoa. This included 4.89" measured by the NWS Cooperative Observer at Greeley.
No severe weather occurred with the thunderstorms on the evening of the 14th through early on the 15th. However, a few of the thunderstorms on the evening of the 15th did become severe, resulting in a few reported wind gusts to around 60 MPH.
