August brought record rainfall to parts of north central Kansas and central and south central Nebraska.  For Kearney...it was the second wettest August since 1894...the third wettest since 1894 at Holdrege...the fourth wettest at York since 1893...and at Phillipsburg since 1965.  Kearney’s August precipitation put them over an inch above the year-to-date normal rainfall.  Many other stations also made gains in closing in on drought related rainfall deficits in August.

The first week of August was by far the warmest and passing storms knocked the edge off temperatures as the month progressed.  For the most part...the majority of our sites finished a half degree either side of the August average monthly temperature.

Note: # one day or more of missing data. * the last of several occurrences. @ hail reported.

YELLOW indicates above normal temperature.

BLUE indicates below normal temperature.
