FRIGID TEMPERATURES MONDAY

Monday marked the coldest day of the season for south central Nebaska and north central Kansas as most locations experienced subzero temperatures in the morning. Despite the extreme chill, the temperatures were not really in record territory. The distinction for the coldest December 15th on record goes back to 1989, when a massive arctic outbreak dropped temperatures in the tank for about 10 days starting around the 15th. In fact, for most locations, the all-time coldest December temperatures were recorded in 1989.

Here is a summary of low temperatures from Monday and how the temperatures rank when compared to the record low for December 15th...and compared to the all-time December low temperature.
