The ASOS at Hastings Municipal Airport recorded an actual high temperature (NOT heat index) of 101 DEGREES at 333 PM,  Thursday afternoon, August 12th, 2010.

This was the first 100 degree day at Hastings in a little over 2 years, since August 2, 2008 (100 degrees). During the last 3 summers, 100+ degree days have been tough to come by in Hastings, with only one in 2007, one in 2008, and NONE in 2009.

Based on a 30-year average from 1971-2000, Hastings typically "should" hit 100+ degrees 5 days each summer. On the hot end of this spectrum, 1974 featured 17 days of 100+ degrees, and 1980 featured 18. More recently, 7 days of 100+ degrees occurred in 2006.

Of course, this pales in comparison to the Dust Bowl era, which featured a remarkable 55 DAYS of 100+ degrees in 1936, and 50 DAYS in 1934.
