After round one of widespread heavy rain Tuesday night of 1 to 3 inches, thunderstorms developed again around noon on Thursday, July 17, 2008 and continued into the overnight hours.  The storms produced another round of widespread rainfall with heavy rain of 1 to 4 inches falling south of the Platte River.  Although there were a couple of reports of quarter size hail, small hail and 40 to 50 mph winds were more common with the storms.

The heavy rainfall caused areas of flooding, and several flood warnings remain in effect.

The following is an image of rainfall estimates from the Hastings National Weather Service Radar.  Rainfall amounts of one inch or greater are displayed.  Areas displayed in 'green' respresent precipitation estimates from 1 inch to 2.5 inches.  'Yellow' areas depict radar precipitation estimates from 2.5 inches to 5 inches.  The 'red' areas represent radar rainfall estimates in excess of 5 inches.

The table below lists the 24 hour rainfall reports as of 8 am CDT, July 18, 2008.  The reports are courtesy of National Weather Service Cooperative Observers, automated rain gauges and storm spotters.
