Temperatures soared to record or near-record levels today across much of the central plains, reaching 15 to 25 degrees above normal thanks to a surge of warm air on southerly breezes ahead of an approaching cold front. 

The temperature topped out at 75 degrees at the Grand Island Central Nebraska Regional Airport, which broke the old record for November 11th of 74 degrees set in 2005.  At the Hastings Municipal Airport, the high temperature today reached 74 degrees, which tied the old record for November 11th which was also established in 2005.   Temperatures at the Kearney Regional Airport hit 75 degrees today which also tied the old record set in 2005. Much cooler weather is expected on Monday behind a passing cold front.
