Record daily maximum temperatures for March 5th were TIED at both Grand Island and Hastings on Thursday (see table below). It is likely that several other daily records were approached or broken across south central Nebraska and north central Kansas during the afternoon, as readings soared well into the 70s or even 80s.
The "hot spots" across the NWS Hastings County Warning Area as recorded by Automated Weather Observing Stations (AWOS) included 82 degrees at Smith Center KS and 81 at Phillipsburg KS. On the Nebraska side, the AWOS at Hebron topped out at 79 degrees.
