September 2009                

 September 2009 began on a cool note  at Grand Island, and Hastings as average daily temperatures were below normal for the first six days of the month.  Readings recovered to normal or above for the second and third weeks, then a strong cutoff upper low pressure system brought another round of cool weather from the 21st to the 25th.   The end of the month continued to see a swing in temperatures and the coldest air settled in on the 29th when the temperature dropped to the freezing mark (32 degrees) at Grand Island, and to 34 degrees at Hastings.  All in all, the average monthly temperature for September 2009 was one degree below normal at Grand island and 2.1 degrees below normal at Hastings.

Precipitation at Grand Island totaled 0.96 inch which was 1.47 inches below normal.  At Hastings, 2.81 inches fell during September, which was 0.07 inch above normal.  The majority of the rain at Hastings fell on a single day, the 11th, when 2.02 inches accumulated.
