Severe thunderstorms developed across far south central Nebraska and much of north central Kansas during the afternoon and evening hours on July 7th, resulting in several reports of hail up to quarter size, wind gusts to at least 60 mph, and torrential rainfall. Some of the heaviest rainfall was concentrated across parts of Jewell and Rooks counties in north central Kansas, where 3.50 inches was reported 6 miles north of Mankato, and nearly 3.00 inches drenched Palco (note that these totals do not reflect any rain that fell during the early morning hours on July 8th).
