Miller Nebraska COOP Observer Receives Special Service Award

Millard Graham of Miller, Nebraska was presented with a National Weather Service (NWS) 5-Year Special Service Award on June 21, 2007. Larry Wirth and Marla Doxey from the National Weather Service Office in Hastings, Nebraska made the presentation.

Millard received the award for 5 years of dedicated volunteer service as a NWS Cooperative Weather Observer dating back to June 1st, 2002. Millard observes and records precipitation information for Miller on a daily basis, using NWS owned equipment. Mr. Graham has also served as a storm spotter providing the office in Hastings with valuable reports both during and after severe thunderstorm and winter storm events in the Miller area.

Also of note, Millard represents the third generation in the Graham Family that has stepped forward as a NWS Cooperative Observer. He is preceded by his grandfather, Howard N. Graham, who served as the Miller Cooperative observer for 30 years, and his father, Ronald Graham who was the observer for 20 years. Climate records for Miller date back to January 1907.

We want to say thank you to Millard and the Graham Family for their years of dedication as volunteer observers and we hope to see Millard collect his 50-year and Family Heritage Awards in 2052!
