Spring Begins March 20th

Spring will officially begin Saturday, March 20th at 12:32 pm CDT as the Sun "crosses" the Equator.  Spring, or the vernal equinox, occurs in the Northern Hemisphere when the sun is positioned over the Equator and the length of day and night are nearly equal.  This transition is purely astronomical and not always the harbinger of warmer weather and the end of winter, and it doesn't actually mean the day and night of the equinox are equal in length either.   For a detailed explanation of equinoxes, from the United States Naval Observatory, click on the links below.
