Weekend Snowfall Amounts from January 13th and 14th, 2007

The combination of an Arctic airmass, and a strong upper level trough of low pressure which moved out of the Rocky Mountains into the Great Plains, created a widespread swatch of snowfall which occurred on January 14th and 15th across the region.  The Southern Plains and parts of the Midwest incurred severe ice storms, as snow fell across Colorado and Nebraska.

The visible satellite image below was taken by a GOES weather satellite at 915 AM on Monday, January 15th.  In this image, you can clearly see the glaciated area of snow blanketing all of eastern Colorado and northeast New Mexico, extending through Nebraska and southeastern South Dakota.

The image below is the 24-hour snowfall as reported by the National Weather Service network of Cooperative Weather Observers.  The NWS Hastings County Warning area is delineated inside the red line.
Note: The snowfall on this map occurred in the 24 hour period ending at 700 AM January 15th.

Below is the 24 Hour Snowfall Map as created by staff members at NWS Hastings for the 24 hour period ending at 700 AM January 15th.

Below is the 24 Hour Snowfall Map as created by staff members at NWS Hastings for the 24 hour period ending at 700 AM January 14th.

The map below shows the snow depths as reported by observation networks (as of 700 AM Monday, January 15th).

The tables below show temperature information, along with precipitation amounts, snow fall and snow depth information for our reporting sites across south central Nebraska and north central Kansas.  The report below was issued for the 24 hour period ending at 700 AM, January 15th.
