A storm system emerged out of the Rockies into western Kansas late Thursday, October 29th, before pushing northeastward into eastern Nebraska during the early morning hours Friday, October 30th. Rain spread across much of the area late Wednesday and continued into the day Friday. Two-day rainfall totals across the area were generally in the one to two inch range, adding to what had already been a very wet October. The map below depicts total rainfall (in inches) between 7am Wednesday and 7am Friday...

By early Friday morning...cooler air on the back side of the storm system allowed precipitation to transition to snow, with snowfall reported through many locations along and northwest of a line from Ord to Beaver City. Through 7am Friday...some of the heaviest snowfall reports were received from western Dawson county, where 13 inches of snowfall was observed in Gothenburg, 10 inches of snow 5 miles east / southeast of Cozad, and 7.2 inches of snow in Cozad. Snowfall amounts dropped off quickly to the east, with 4 inches reported at Lexington, 1 inch at Miller, and only a trace at Kearney and Loup City. The map and table below depict 24-hour snowfall across the NWS Hastings coverage area through 7am Friday, October 30th.
