Dan's interest in weather began when he was 10 years old growing up in Lincoln, NE. He was fascinated with the thunderstorms that would frequently occur during the summer months and decided to pursue a career in meteorology. Dan received his bachelors degree in meteorology-climatology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2002. By this time, Dan's weather interests had shifted from thunderstorms to mountain meteorology. He attended graduate school for meteorology at the University of Utah until obtaining a masters degree in 2004. Dan's masters thesis dealt with the complex interactions between thermally driven flows that occur in the Salt Lake Valley, including the Great Salt Lake breeze. This research has recently been submitted for publication in the Journal of Applied Meteorology. Dan began his career with the Weather Service in January 2005.
