WXCODER Instructions for Cooperative Observers |
The only requirement for Cooperative Observers to use WXCODER is that
you have access to the INTERNET and are willing.
- Coop Observers will be provided the appropriate INTERNET address
(URL) for the WXCODER Entry Form. The Entry Form requires the Observer
to enter a "Username", "Password", and Site Identifier (SID) for the
Observer's Coop Station. This information will be provided by the local
National Weather Service Office.
- After the above information is entered, the local Weather Service
Office is selected from a drop down menu.
- The observation date and time defaults to the current day and time to
the nearest hour (the time calculation assumes that the server is in
UTC time). If the day and time of observation is different, the
appropriate day and time should be selected from the drop down menus.
- The type of Observation is then selected from two choices: 1 - Daily,
or 2 - Special.
- Then select "Duration/Type" - "Since Regular Observation Time" would
be selected in most instances, unless it is a Special Observation.
- Also check appropriate boxes for Urgent Report (RR4) or Correction to
a Previous Observation"(.AR), as necessary.
- Then click "SUBMIT" to go to the Weather Data Entry Forms.
Weather Data Entry Forms:
There are four Weather Data Entry Forms and the appropriate form/forms
should be clicked on. The four forms:
1 - Rain/Snow
2 - Temperature (Air and Soil)
3 - River Data
4 - Miscellaneous (Ice Cover/Thickness, Evaporation, Frost/Dew,
Relative Humidity, Sunshine, etc.)
There are "HELP" buttons for each weather parameter, that when clicked,
provide instructions to correctly enter the data.
After all appropriate weather data is entered, click the "Submit Data"
button.
If you use Netscape Browser, this process includes one more
step. "Ready to Submit" is clicked, then "Submit Data".
If the submitted data passes the quality checks, the data the Observer
entered will be displayed for a final review before the observation is
sent.
If there are errors in the data submitted, i.e., precipitation entered
to the nearest tenth of an inch rather than to the nearest hundredth,
etc... a message will be displayed:
Invalid Input. The following parameters have invalid entries:
Enter Precip in hundredths of an inch (i.e., 0.23 or 1.23) or "T" for
Trace and "M" for Missing.
If an error is found in the data, click the "back" button to go back to
the Weather Data Entry Form to correct the error as appropriate. Then
Click "SUBMIT DATA" and if the error was properly corrected the data
entered will be displayed for a final review before the observation is
sent. |
