Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholar Day

January 2003

Martin Luther King Scholar Visit

The students from Goodland High School  visited the National Weather Service office in Goodland, Kansas on 22 January 2003, as a part of the observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Accompanying the students during the visit was the High School Science Teacher. We hold this day with the hope that it will encourage young people in the area to learn more about African Americans in our history. During their visit, they had the opportunity to work with forecasters in the area of Hydrology, WSR-88D Radar, Severe Weather, Weather Observations, NOAA Weather Radio and the AWIPS Computer System.  The students also received a tour of our Electronics Department and were presented with certificates which commemorated their visit.
