.SYNOPSIS...

IN THE MAY 29TH RELEASE OF THE U.S. DROUGHT MONITOR...NO DROUGHT 
CONDITIONS WERE INDICATED ANYWHERE IN THE TRI STATE AREA.

THE DROUGHT MONITOR FOCUSES ON BROAD-SCALE CONDITIONS. LOCAL 
CONDITIONS MAY VARY.

.LOCAL AREAS AFFECTED...

DROUGHT LEVELS...
D0 -- ABNORMALLY DRY OR RECOVERING FROM DROUGHT
D1 -- MODERATE DROUGHT
D2 -- SEVERE DROUGHT
D3 -- EXTREME DROUGHT
D4 -- EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT

PERCENT NORMALS OF PRECIPITATION ARE THE AVERAGE ACROSS A COUNTY FOR 
THE INDICATED PERIOD. LOCAL CONDITIONS MAY VARY. A VALUE OF 100 
PERCENT WOULD BE THE CLIMATOLOGICAL NORMAL...A VALUE OF 50 PERCENT 
WOULD BE HALF OF NORMAL AND CONSIDERED DRY...WHILE A VALUE OF 200

.CLIMATE SUMMARY...

ALTHOUGH THUNDERSTORMS DURING THE MONTH OF MAY BROUGHT LOCALIZED 
HEAVY RAIN AND FLOODING...THE OVERALL PRECIPITATION PATTERN WAS 
BELOW NORMAL. IN FACT...SOME AREAS RECEIVED MUCH BELOW NORMAL 
RAINFALL. GOODLAND SAW ITS 7TH DRIEST MAY ON RECORD WITH LESS THAN 
AN INCH FOR THE MONTH. THE DRIEST AREAS WERE NEAR THE COLORADO AND 
KANSAS STATE LINE. AS A RESULT...ONE AND THREE MONTH TOTALS FELL BELOW 
NORMAL IN SOME LOCATIONS. HOWEVER...THE WET WINTER CONTINUES TO KEEP 
THE TWELVE MONTH TOTALS ABOVE NORMAL.
