A SLOW MOVING UPPER LEVEL TROUGH COUPLED WITH DEEP MOISTURE AND A
SLOW MOVING MESO-SCALE BOUNDARY COMBINED TO PRODUCE PERIODS OF
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS LAST NIGHT INTO
EARLY THIS MORNING. THERE WERE SOME AMAZING RAINFALL TOTALS FROM
A CLUSTER OF THUNDERSTORMS THAT TRAINED OVER PARTS OF FORT
BEND...HARRIS...NORTHERN BRAZORIA AND NORTHERN GALVESTON COUNTIES.

                       ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS...

THE LACK OF A WINTER COUPLED WITH WARM OVERNIGHT LOW TEMPERATURES DURING
THE EARLY SPRING HAS PRODUCED THE WARMEST START TO A YEAR IN WEATHER RECORDS
HISTORY ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS. ALL FOUR FIRST ORDER CLIMATE SITES
HAVE RECORDED THEIR WARMEST START TO A YEAR. DESPITE THE RECORD WARMTH...THERE
WAS A PRONOUNCED LACK OF DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS. HOUSTON HOBBY AND
COLLEGE STATION FAILED TO TALLY A SINGLE HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD. THE CITY OF
HOUSTON ESTABLISHED ONE NEW HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD AND THE CITY OF GALVESTON
RECORDED NINE RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES SINCE THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. RECORD HIGH
MINIMUMS WERE A BIT MORE COMMON BUT CERTAINLY NOT AS FREQUENT AS ONE MIGHT
THINK. HOUSTON ESTABLISHED EIGHT HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORDS THUS FAR IN
2012. COLLEGE STATION ESTABLISHED FOUR NEW RECORD HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE
RECORDS AND GALVESTON HAS 21 NEW OR TIED HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORDS.

0.8 DEGREES.

A CURSORY LOOK AT A FEW CO-OP SITES SHOW SOME DIFFERING RESULTS. THE AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE AT BRENHAM THUS FAR IN 2012 WAS 63.9 DEGREES. THIS IS THE EIGHTH
WARMEST START TO A YEAR. THE WARMEST START TO A YEAR IN BRENHAM OCCURRED BACK
IN 1938 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 65.5 DEGREES. DANEVANGS WARMEST START
TO A YEAR WAS IN 1911 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 67.1 DEGREES. IN 2012...
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR DANEVANG WAS 65.2 DEGREES WHICH IS THE 13TH WARMEST
START TO A YEAR. FREEPORTS AVERAGE TEMPERATURE IN 2012 WAS 67.3 DEGREES AND
THIS IS THE WARMEST START TO A YEAR BESTING THE PREVIOUS WARMEST START OF
67.0 DEGREES ESTABLISHED IN 2000.
