THETA-E Short for Equivalent Potential Temperature. A very useful tool at the disposal of an operational meteorologist, theta-e measures the heat AND moisture content of the atmosphere. Thus, it is useful in diagnosing atmospheric instability (higher theta-e values generally result in higher levels of instability).
