Wichita Records Its Coolest Afternoon High Since June 21st.

THE TEMPERATURE AT THE WICHITA MID CONTINENT AIRPORT ONLY REACHED 83 DEGREES ON AUGUST 10TH. THIS WAS THE COOLEST HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDED SINCE JUNE 21ST, WHEN THE HIGH WAS 81 DEGREES. IN FACT, DURING THE ENTIRE MONTH OF JULY, THE HIGH TEMPERATURE FAILED TO REACH AT LEAST 90 ON ONLY 5 OCCASIONS.

AS FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST, THERE HAVE BEEN 7 DAYS IN WHICH THE TEMPERATURE HAS REACHED OR EXCEEDED THE 100 DEGREE MARK. AS YOU MAY REMEMBER, LAST AUGUST THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 23 DAYS OF TRIPLE DIGIT READINGS. THIS SET AN ALL TIME RECORD FOR THE NUMBER OF 100 DEGREE DAYS IN AUGUST.

LAST YEAR, WE RECORDED A GRAND TOTAL OF 33 DAYS OF 100+ DEGREE HEAT. THIS SUMMER WE GOT OFF TO A MUCH FASTER START AND HAVE ALREADY RECORDED 24 DAYS. ALTHOUGH A WARMING TREND IS EXPECTED, TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN BELOW THE CENTURY MARK FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT WEEK.
