More snow plows into the area within a week (12/13/2003)

By: Rob Cox

Strong storm system on December 12-13 follows close to the same track as the Tuesday December 9-10 storm.

Another strong storm system plowed into the region Friday afternoon and Friday night. This system took a little more track to the south than its predecessor earlier in the week. As a result, it dumped anywhere from 6 to 10 inches across south central and southeast Kansas. Central Kansas did not escape from this storm either, with most places seeing an additional 2 to 4inches. The snow began in western Kansas during the morning and moved into central and south central by mid afternoon. This snow then moved into southeast kansas during the evening. The snow began to taper off to flurries Saturday morning.

Even though most places in Central Kansas saw 2 to 4 inches, there was a narrowband of heavier snow that occurred around Mcpherson and Ellsworth where they saw an additional 6 to 10 inches. See image 1. That brought the total snow depth in Ellsworth up to one foot. This snow is the biggest snowfall producer since last February.
