Snowy End to January!! (1/29/2005)

Quick moving upper level storm system provides a wintry exit to January.

A quick moving upper level storm system emerged out of the desert Southwest during the early morning hours on Friday January 28th. Bands of light snow developed north of this upper level wave as it tracked across Northern Oklahoma. Image 1 is an upper air map that shows the position of the upper low pressure area at 6 pm on Friday(1/28/05). Image 2 is a water vapor satellite image also taken on Friday evening. Note the swirl pattern over Southeast Kansas which also shows the location of the storm system.

This storm system generally brought snow amounts in the 1 to 3 inch range across South Central and Southeast Kansas. Image 3 is a detailed map showing snowfall amounts across the area.
