  TOTAL RAINFALL FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL AT WICHITA`S MID-CONTINENT
  AIRPORT WAS 9.94 INCHES...MAKING 2009 THE 2ND WETTEST APRIL
  ON RECORD. THE ALL-TIME APRIL RECORD-HOLDER IS 1944...DURING WHICH 12.42
  INCHES SWAMPED THE AIR CAPITAL. THE TOP 10 WETTEST APRILS ON RECORD
  FOR WICHITA APPEAR BELOW:

1) 1944: 12.42 INCHES 2) 2009: 9.94 INCHES* 3) 1942: 7.08 INCHES 4) 1945: 6.79 INCHES 5) 1951: 6.33 INCHES 6) 1940: 6.15 INCHES 7) 1922: 6.12 INCHES 8) 1999: 6.02 INCHES 9) 1901: 5.83 INCHES 10) 1976: 5.57 INCHES

AN EVEN MORE AMAZING RAINFALL STATISTIC PERTAINS TO THE 5.10 INCHES THAT SWAMPED WICHITA ON THE 26TH WHICH IS 54% OF THE MONTHLY TOTAL. THIS NOT ONLY SET A NEW CALENDAR DAY RECORD FOR THE DATE...OVERWHELMING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 1.88 INCHES SET IN 1969 BY A STAGGERING 3.22 INCHES...IT IS ALSO THE 2ND GREATEST RAINFALL TOTAL FOR ANY DATE IN APRIL...BEING SURPASSED ONLY BY APRIL 22ND 1944...ON WHICH 6.03 INCHES SWAMPED WICHITA. THE TOP 5 WETTEST DATES IN APRIL APPEAR BELOW:

1) APRIL 22ND, 1944: 6.03 INCHES 2) APRIL 26TH, 2009: 5.10 INCHES 3) APRIL 29TH, 1924: 2.69 INCHES 4) APRIL 5TH, 1928: 2.45 INCHES 5) APRIL 30TH, 1951: 2.26 INCHES
